Remington announced their new RP9 Pistol, and it seems to be running into similar issues as their previous pistol. If you are considering purchasing the Remington RP9, I strongly recommend watching the video. The amount of issues with the pistol are… concerning to say the least.
First Strike: Remington RP9 Review. Drew Warden-March 13, 2017. Remington’s new RP9 is the American manufacturer’s first full-size striker-fired handgun, and it’s got a lot to offer in a price-friendly package.
The Remington R51 was intended to be a compact conceal carry pistol. But unfortunately, bot the first and second versions of the R51 were full of design issues and reliability issues. Remington announced their new RP9 Pistol, and it seems to be running into similar issues as their previous pistol.
If you are considering purchasing the Remington RP9, I strongly recommend watching the video. The amount of issues shown for the Remington RP9 are… concerning to say the least.
Issues with the Remington RP9
This pistol is not intended to be a compact pistol, however, it is a bit wide and top heavy for what it is. There are many competing handguns that are nowhere near as top heavy.
The RP9 advertises ambidextrous controls, but due to the design of the slide release, it is difficult, if not close to impossible, to operate the lefty’s slide release. The ambidextrous slide release is made out of stamped sheet metal, which just flexes and doesn’t release the slide.
The RP9 has reliability issues when shooting from a full 18 round magazine. It also has difficulties ejecting rounds, and will nose bullets into the edge of the feed ramp, causing serious jams. These jams were scarily consistent and required dropping the mag to clear.
Many of these issues have been replicated by multiple sources.

Update
The Military Arms Channel released an update video with more testing on a second Remington RP9 with more types and brands of ammunition. It’s a little long of a video, but it is quite thorough.
While the second round of testing went better than the previous video, it still encountered a few malfunctions and has design issues. For example, forcefully reloading magazines causes the round to fly out and cause malfunctions or send an extra round flying. There’s also still the issue with the ambi slide release not working properly.
If you’re looking to skip the bulk of the testing and just get the conclusion of the Remington RP9 review, skip ahead on the video to about 19 minutes in.
